Two special MGs up for auction
Two MGs are to be put up for auction at Race Retro, Stoneleigh Park on the 26th, 27th and 28th February. An ex BMC competitions-department 1958 MGA Twin Cam Roadster is the first of two MGs that are listed on the Silverstone Auctions website, out of a total of three cars that have been added so far.
This MGA was the first to be officially entered into an international event, the 1958 Liege-Rome-Liege Rally. Driven by John Gott and navigated by Ray Brookes, the car accomplished an incredible 10th place overall and 4th in class.
The other MG is a 1970 MGC GT competition-spec race car, complete with period history and raced by Mark Burnside. This C GT is a very quick car having held a number of lap records in its day and now offers numerous options for competition.
The car benefits from an engine rebuild, carried out by Steve James Engineering in 2010, during which new Cosworth pistons, valves and new valve seats were incorporated, among other adjustments.
