Rollercoaster Ride For MG KX Momentum at Oulton Park
OULTON Park provided a weekend of highs and lows for the MG KX Momentum team with Jason Plato taking two back to back wins before making a fiery exit in the final race.
The Triple Eight powered team secured a front row lockout after Plato set the fastest time in qualifying, closely followed by team mate Sam Tordoff, just half a second behind the two-time champion.
As the lights dropped Plato sailed to an easy victoryin the opening race, the 77th of his career, closely followed by Tordoff, claiming his best result to date.
A second pole position for Plato allowed him to make the clean getaway he wanted, while Tordoff, running the mandatory soft compound tyres, did his best to defend his team mate and hold off the pack.
Gordon Shedden was soon on Tordoff’s tail and found a gap to begin his pursuit of Plato. Despite the softer tyres, Tordoff held on to a podium spot until a collision with Mat Jackson damaged the rear of his car and put him out of contention.
Tordoff did everything he could to keep his MG6 going, finishing outside the top-ten for the first time this season.
Tordoff’s misfortune meant he had to start the final race from 21st space on the grid with Plato drawing tenth spot, running soft compound tyres on a car filled with maximum ballast. Disaster soon struck with flames jumping out the engine bay.
Undeterred, Tordoff began clawing his way through the grid making his way up to an impressive seventh place before crossing the finish line for the final time of the weekend.
Plato’s two victories made him the highest points scorer from the weekend and saw him close the gap on championship leader Matt Neal to just 7 points.
