Triple-M MGs
Model Guide
The pre-war overhead cam MG models include the Midgets (1929-36), Magnas (1931-33) and Magnettes (1932-36). The name derives from the three main model classifications – Midget, Magna and Magnette – and is referred to as Triple-M.
The MG Midget is a sports car that was produced from April 1929 to 1932. It was one of the first genuinely affordable sports cars to be offered by an established manufacturer.
MG introduced its own 12 horsepower car in September 1931, the F type Magna. The power unit was essentially a Wolseley Hornet engine with two extra cylinders, around the block there was a lot of camouflaging sheet metal work to disguise its origin.
The very popular Magna range was complemented by the K Series Magnettes in 1932. There were three different chassis, four different engines and three different gearboxes all being fitted into five different body variations.
