Thrilling motorsport action at MGLive!
The MG Car Club’s flagship MGLive! event will provide the setting as MGCC motorsport returns to action with a brilliant two-day racing schedule at Silverstone on June 2-3.
As one of the few Club race meetings to take place on the famous Grand Prix circuit, spectators can expect packed grids and a wide range of machinery doing battle. On the bill for MGLive! are the Club’s BCV8 Championship, Midget and Sprite Challenge, MG Trophy, Cockshoot Cup and Peter Best Insurance Services MG Cup, as well as the historic Iconic 50s series, an Allcomers Pit Stop Race and the exclusive MGF/TF Anniversary Challenge.
But the excitement doesn’t end there. In addition, there will be packed grids from both the thrilling Equipe GTS and Equipe Pre-’63 series, with a race on each day for both. Completing the bill is the Porsche Club Championship on the Saturday, which incorporates the new Restroracing Competition for Porsche Boxsters, and the thrilling SRCC Sports 2000 Racing Championship on the Sunday.
Over 300 cars will be on track over the weekend, with 35 of them set to compete in the thriving MG Trophy, which has once again been supported by Millers Oils. The grid will include guest appearances from Danie Van Niekerk and Cliff Bacon, all the way from South Africa!
Also boasting over 30 entries will be the TN Racing BCV8 Championship. Rob Spencer could make it five wins in a row if he matches his Brands Hatch performance with another double victory, but fellow Class D drivers Russ McCarthy and Neil Fowler will be out to stop him from doing so.
Rewinding back to a golden era for MG will be the superb Iconic 50s series, with classic T-types joining MGAs on an entry list that will include at least 24 cars. Amongst them will be Australian racer Dave Godwin’s well-travelled A Roadster, affectionately known as ‘the Birdcage A’.
The Church Square Autos MGF/TF Challenge takes place on the Saturday, celebrating the 20th anniversary of the launch of the MGF Cup. Open to all competition MGF and later TF models, the race will serve a dual function in marking the anniversary of both the BRDC MGF Cup and the MGCC Abingdon Trophy, which ran in parallel and both began in 1998.
On Sunday, the Lackford Engineering Midget and Sprite Challenge will play host to a returning hero, as multiple race winner Paul Sibley joins the ranks for the first time in 2018. He’ll be joined on the grid by teenager and fellow Class A entrant Edward Weston, who will be racing for the very first time.
Also included amongst the weekend’s line-up will be healthy grids from the MGCC’s Cockshoot Cup and Peter Best Insurance Services MG Cup, with a special additional Allcomers Race taking place on Sunday. A 40-minute pit stop race, this encounter will see MGs line up with a variety of different models and marques to end MGLive! in enjoyable fashion. What’s more, late entries will be accepted without extra charge.
Tickets for MGLive! can still be purchased on the gate, with under 15s admitted free when accompanied by an adult. See HERE or call 01235 555552.
