MGCC Race Chairman announces retirement

MGCC Race Chairman, Ron Gammons has decided to step down at the end of the 2018 Race season.

Ron has been involved with the MGCC since the 1960s and has served in many roles within the Club – twice as Chairman and including the establishment of the Club’s HQ at Kimber House, however he is best known, for his tireless commitment to MGCC Motorsport.

Ron has led the Club’s race programme for many years, and under his leadership the annual 6 event season has always made a positive contribution to the clubs’ finances and provided the venue for MGLive! His commitment has been matched by his wife Valery, who has given her time to help competitors and assist with the running of the meetings from the Club’s Welcome Centre.

“The name Ron Gammons has been synonymous with the MG Car Club and MGCC Motorsport for so many years” noted MGCC Chairman Ian Quarrington. “Clubs like ours are built on the efforts and commitment of volunteers like Ron and it’s going to be strange not having him around next season” he added.

Though he has chosen to retire from the Race sub Committee (RsC), Ron will continue to help all the MG Racing community in a non-executive role and especially the relationship with our guests.

“I am leaving the leadership of the RsC so I can finally devote some more time to my other passion of flying” said Ron, adding “I would like to express my sincere appreciation to our wonderful team of volunteers who have supported all my efforts over the years”

Ron will not immediately be replaced as Chairman as the RsC as the membership is to be expanded to include some younger members, while the coordination of the RsC will be handled by the Competition Secretary John Hutchison

The new RsC will conduct a full strategic review to ensure all MGCC members and our guests continue to have the opportunity to participate in MGCC motorsport in 2019 and to ensure an appropriate legacy for the contribution made by Ron.

The MG Car Club, our competitors, and everyone involved in organising MGCC racing would like to thank Ron, Valery and the entire Gammons family for their incredible support to the MGCC Racing.
