MGCC gets set for a busy Brands Hatch meeting

Following a fantastic season opener at Silverstone, MG Car Club motorsport returns to action with a packed two-day schedule of racing at Brands Hatch on April 28-29.

Taking place on the famous Indy circuit, spectators will be able to witness all the excitement from a broad range of MGs from the 1920s right up to the 2000s. On the bill are the Club’s BCV8 Championship, Metro Cup, Midget and Sprite Challenge, MG Trophy and the Peter Best Insurance Services MG Cup, as well as the historic Iconic 50s series and the brilliant Triple-M Racing Challenge.

Once again, packed grids will be the order of the weekend, with double-headers for all MGCC championships and series. Both MG Trophy and BCV8 battles will take place on the Saturday, while Sunday has a more historic feel courtesy of both Triple-M and Iconic 50s races.

The Baynton Jones Historic Motorsport Triple-M Challenge looks set provide an amazing spectacle for its first races of the season, with over 30 cars set to turn the clock back almost 90 years. Catering for Midgets, Magnas and Magnettes built from 1929 to 1936, the action will feature the Mary Harris Trophy race as the first of two 15-minute encounters.

A strong turnout is expected for the Iconic 50 series too, including Australian racer Dave Godwin’s well-travelled MGA racer, affectionately known as ‘the Birdcage A’. Remarkably, Dave has shipped the car all the way over from Down Under to the UK so that he can campaign it for the next two summers.

With 29 cars and counting, the Classic Fuel Solutions MG Trophy Championship looks set for another great meeting. Jason Burgess and Paul Luti will be looking to follow up their double class victories at Silverstone with strong showings, as will 18-year-old Tylor Ballard, who picked up the Driver of the Race award with a maiden Class C victory in race one.

The thriving TN Racing BCV8 Championship also looks set for an impressive 29-strong entry list. Reigning champion Russ McCarthy will be looking to put his Silverstone qualifying woes behind him, but Rob Spencer and Neil Fowler will also fancy their chances after a one-two finish in the opening round.

Brands looks set to be a great occasion for the Lackford Engineering Midget and Sprite Challenge too, with 22 drivers and counting set to take to the grid for races on the Saturday and Sunday. Amongst them will be youngster Abigail Whitt and season debutant James Fettiplace.

With the Club’s Drayton Manor Park MG Metro Cup and Peter Best Insurance MG Cup also on the schedule, almost 150 cars will be battling it out under the MGCC banner. What’s more, Club members visiting the meeting in an MG can enjoy parade laps on the circuit during the lunch break on both days.

But the excitement doesn’t end there. In addition, there will be packed grids from both the thrilling Equipe GTS and Equipe Pre-’63 series. The GTS series has been divided into two Group A and Group B races, with a combined total of over 60 cars set to be involved.

Completing the bill for the weekend are the British Thoroughbreds for sports, saloons and GT cars, together with the All Comers Race catering for a huge variety of sporty tin-tops.

Adult day tickets for spectators are priced at just £12 for this event or £20 for the weekend, with reduced prices for 13-15 year olds and under-13s free. For information and to book, please visit HERE.
