TROPHY co-ordinator Pete Macwaters has put a call out for more lady drivers to join the ever increasing grids of the MG Trophy Championship.

Macwaters said “In 2013 we had two ladies competing but Sarah Budby, who cleaned up with the Season Improver and Lady Driver awards, is moving on to race a Fiesta in 2014 so I need to replace her. Regular competitor Julia Penfold has already signed up for this year but I would like to see more women joining the men in the Trophy.”

“We have introduced a new budget class this year using the standard ZR160 road car with just the necessary safety equipment to keep costs really low. This is proving to be very popular with newcomers and I see this as the route in to competitive tin top racing for those ladies who want to give it a try” said Macwaters.

A ‘race ready’ ZR160 can be bought for about £3,500 depending on the donor car cost, one will be available to view at the MG/Triumph spares day at Stoneleigh on the 2nd March.

“This year we are racing on all the top UK tracks including the Silverstone GP circuit and north of the border at Knockhill, I doubt if any other tin top championship can offer a package to match that for such a small outlay” concluded Macwaters.
