MG ZS provides the perfect Hedgehog Ambulance

MG Motor UK and Cambridge MG are helping hedgehogs caught in prickly situations through the donation of a ZS SUV to the Shepreth Wildlife Conservation Charity (SWCC) Hedgehog Hospital in Hertfordshire for use as a Hedgehog Ambulance.

Shepreth Hedgehog Hospital, located within Shepreth Wildlife Park, took delivery of the new ZS to use for vet visits, returning rehabilitated hedgehogs back into the wild and collecting donations made by the public. The arrival of the Hedgehog Ambulance meant that hospital volunteers would no longer need to rely on their personal vehicles to carry out the critical tasks.

Wrapped in SWCC’s own branding, the Hedgehog Ambulance also serves as an educational tool to drive community engagement and education in schools and the public on hedgehog conservation. The ZS is one of the most practical compact SUVs on the market with a 448-litre boot, which expands to an impressive 1,375-litre load space with the rear seat backs folded flat enabling the team of volunteers to move multiple hedgehogs in their hospital boxes, minimising the stress and disruption for the animals.

We used the hospital after discovering an injured hedgehog at home and wanted to assist the team to carry out their vital work. Shepreth Wildlife Park has supported MG Cambridge in the past, hosting promotional events at the site and this felt like the perfect way to show our appreciation.

The partnership also sees a further £100 donated to the charity when an MG is sold with the promotional flyer from Shepreth Wildlife Park, where the hospital is based. Since the ZS arrived at the hospital, Cambridge MG has sold an MG3 to the owner of a hedgehog sanctuary in Newcastle, as well as a ZS to a customer involved with the park.

Sasha Sebright, Shepreth Hedgehog Hospital Manager, said: “Receiving the ZS from Cambridge MG has made a huge difference to our day-to-day lives at the SWCC Hedgehog Hospital. Where previously we had to rely on our own cars, staff can now use the dedicated ambulance to visit the vets and release sites. The large cargo area, smooth ride and quiet engine allows us to move multiple hedgehogs with little aggravation, as well as easily collect generous donations from members of the community when they cannot be delivered to our premises.

“One clear difference has been having the car branded as the Hedgehog Ambulance. It has already been a fantastic educational tool, raising awareness of our work and in turn helping to protect hedgehogs locally and around the UK.”
