MG motorsport trio on display at MGLive!

10th May 2017

Three incredibly special MGs will be part of a motorsport display on show in the main marquee at MGLive! taking place on the 17th & 18th June. These unique MGs have all written their names into the marque’s history books at various stages and will be available for everyone to see at Silverstone.

Dave Saunders’ Works MGC GTS (RMO699F) is a car with huge racing pedigree. In all, only two lightweight MGCs were built in the Competitions Department at Abingdon, MBL 546E and later RMO 699F. Work began in designing the lightweight MGCs in 1966, with the plan being to race them in prototype sports car categories. They both ran in the 1968 Marathon de la Route – an 84-hour race in Nurburgring, as well as Sebring in 1969. The cars found new owners in America after that, and were eventually sold on – which is great news for attendees at MGLive! this year who will be able to see an incredibly rare ex-works MGC GTS.

Tony Pond’s MG Metro 6R4 is no stranger to the MG Car Club, having appeared on the Club’s stand at the 2016 Classic Motor Show in November where it turned heads all weekend. At MGLive! it will once again be on show for all to see, with the iconic Group B rally legend included within a stellar line-up of motorsport machinery. Despite arriving late to the party in 1985, the 6R4 left a lasting impression on the Group B rally era, mainly due to its striking appearance and classic Computervision livery.

To round up this unique trio is one of the current MG6 GTs that’s racing in the 2017 British Touring Car Championship (BTCC). Operated by Triple Eight Racing for 2017, the cars are campaigned by Dan Lloyd and Aron Taylor-Smith and are heavily modified versions of the MG6. The BTCC has been popular with MG enthusiasts since they started the current programme back in 2012, and we can’t wait to show the car off at Silverstone this year.

MGLive! combines a fantastic line-up of motorsport with the Club’s annual celebration of the marque, including over 3,000 MGs on display, live music, celebrity guests and much more. To book tickets, head over to www.mglive.co.uk.
