P1010629
THE MG CAR CLUB Magnette Register marked the 60th anniversary of the car’s launch with a celebration weekend on 9-11th August. Demonstrating the enduring appeal of this fifties sporting saloon, nearly 100 enthusiasts gathered at Wroxall Abbey Hotel in Warwickshire, with visitors from as far as Australia, New Zealand, USA and Mexico.

The main event was at Coventry Transport Museum on Saturday, when Millennium Place in front of the museum was filled with Magnettes ranging from early ‘tin-top dashboard’ ZA models to 1958 ZBs from the end of production.

Amongst the special guests were Car Club President John Day, veteran MG designer Don Hayter, and Celia Palmer whose father Gerald created the Magnette as well the the Jowett Javelin and Riley Pathfinder.

Also speaking were historic rally Magnette drivers Jan Pearce and Jose Romao de Sousa, together with Harold Brooks, longest-serving MGCC member and one of the Magnette works team drivers in the 1955 Monte Carlo Rally. More photos and reports at www.magnette.org
