Lord Montagu – Motor Museum Founder Dies At 88
Lord Montagu, the Founder of Beaulieu Motor Museum, passed away yesterday at the age of 88.
Edward Douglas-Scott-Montagu, Lord Montagu of Beaulieu had been heavily involved in the motor industry from a young age, becoming an expert on vintage cars and often competing in the London to Brighton Run.
A spokeswoman for Beaulieu Estate said Edward, 3rd Baron Montagu of Beaulieu, died peacefully after a short illness.
In 1952 he opened his family home, Palace House to the public – forming the National Motor Museum.
As well as this, Lord Montagu also played a great role in the preservation of the nation’s historic houses, and was also pivotal in the end of legal discrimination against homosexuals.
The MG Car Club has always upheld a strong relationship with Beaulieu Motor Museum, and we are saddened to hear the news of Lord Beaulieu’s passing. We express our deepest condolences at this difficult time.
