John Venables 1937 – 2021
I first met John (JV) back in the 1960’s at the Oxford Motor Club. Although he owned many cars over the years from a Mini Cooper, Ford Cortina, AH Sprite, Morgan plus many others, his main interest in the early days was motor bike scrambling and he owned a motorbike up until the early 2000’s.
In the 1980’s he bought his first MG – 1965 BRG MGB, later a red MGA which he converted from left hand drive to right hand drive. Then he purchased a white MGTF and a green MGVA. Then his collection of MG’s was completed with the addition of ‘Black Beauty’ – a black Vintage 18/80.
John was a keen supporter of the MG Car Club and a committee member of the AWC also the MGB Register and latterly he was the Chairman of the Vintage Register. He organised runs and enjoyed many trips all over Europe.
John’s health started to fail a couple of years ago and sadly he passed away early on Saturday 30th October 2021. Trica his wife and his 3 daughters were with him at home in Oxford.
A full obituary will appear in the December Safety Fast
