Celebrations with a capital ‘C’ at 2017 Gala Dinner
The 2017 MGCC Gala Dinner has been hailed a great success as the MGC Register were awarded the Nuffield Gold Cup for their fantastic efforts organising the MGC 50th Anniversary Celebrations.
Held at the De Vere Staverton Estate, the dinner marked a return to tradition as members from across the Club’s centres and registers gathered to celebrate another successful year for the Club.
A trio of awards were handed out on the evening, with all eyes on the Club’s iconic Nuffield Gold Cup. Given to the Club by Lord Nuffied himself, each year the Cup is awarded to a CRB that has achieved something outstanding and Chairman Ian Quarrington could think of no better group than the C Register for their hard work to organise this year’s MGC 50.
The Cup was presented by Club Senior Director Dave Saunders and the Register Committee were understandably thrilled, Chairman Ian Quarrington said “It was a simple choice and a richly deserved award. The MGC Register is one of the smaller within the Club, purely down to the limited production run of the car – despite that the Register worked tremendously hard and put together a magnificent event that had people travelled to from across the Globe.”
Elsewhere, the Club’s Member of The Year Award was presented to Darren Allsworth, in recognition of his continued efforts to support the Club’s attendance at events across the UK, while a new award, The Cecil Kimber Fellowship, was also awarded.
The Fellowship is given as a gift from the Club Chairman and General Manager, in recognition of an exemplary contribution to the MG Car Club, and this first award was presented to Dave Saunders, following his hard work not only with the Club’s Motorsport, but years of contribution to the Club’s executive committee and most recently, the Bill Wallis Wing Archive facility.
General Manager Adam Sloman said “The Club’s President, Chairman, Executive Committee and the event organisers would like to thank all our members who joined us for the dinner – it was a fantastic evening and a wonderful way to mark another busy year right across the Club.”
Barrie and Ginny Cartmell have expressed their gratitude in this statement:
It was with absolute delight and astonishment for Barrie and I to be awarded the Nuffield Gold Cup at last month MG Car Club Gala Dinner. I very rarely find myself completely speechless; however on this occasion I was, Barrie had to speak on behalf of us both whilst I stood alongside him in amazement.
It was an honour for us to except this prestigious award on behalf of the full MGC Register Committee, for our achievement earlier this year with the 50th Anniversary event at Chateau-Impney. This was a truly international event and supported by MGC’s and their owners from all around the world.
Thank you to all that played a part in nominating us as a register, for this fantastic award. The future looks good and the C register will continue to thrive under the direction of the new officers and established committee and of course all the loyal supporters of our events a “True Marque of Friendship”.
The evening was made even more special when Dave Saunders, (appointed Director for the C Register) was awarded a new trophy for his commitment, hard work and dedication to the club spanning many years.
Very kind regards to all.
