Rabbie Burns Run 2015
Rabbie Burns Run
No les than thirty five cars took to the start of the annual Rabbie Burns Run from Needham Market on Sunday 25th January.
With lunch booked from noon, the crews embarked on a scenic leisurely route of some thirty three miles, visiting the villages of Bildeston, Chelsworth, Kersey and Boxted before arriving at Stratford St Mary for lunch at The Anchor.
Each crew had an information sheet with a history of some of the places visited, such as St James Chapel. Dating back to a time before the Reformation, it is now in the care of English Heritage.
A total of forty five pounds was donated to the club from a collection made on the day. The event always lifts the spirit in mid winter, with many members having attended each run since it’s inception in 2008.
Spitfires, Merlins and Motors – Roger’s Review
I recently had the pleasure of attending this wonderful event splendidly organised by Terry Starkey.
The venue was the IWM Duxford. The Motors part was the MG Car Club and other clubs.
We had the prime position immediately in front of the American Pavilion on grass bordering the edge of the airfield. Just beyond our part of the boundary fence two Merlin engines were on tethered trollies. Can you imagine our pleasure when from time to time during the day one was started and run up and then idled while the second was run up and then the two together. Wow and double wow, thought we’d died and gone to heaven!
There were five Spitfires on hand of which at least two flew and showed us some typical WW11 manoeuvres. Additionally there was also an ME108 dressed as a 109 flying. A flying fortress was static.
We enjoyed a glorious summer day with all the many attractions of Duxford to go with it. Add in an interesting mix of around 50 MGs and plenty of good company and things were as perfect as they could be.
Many thanks Terry and here’s to next year.

The 2014 MGCC Anglia Summer Picnic at Anglesey Abbey National Trust
A glorious English summer’s day! What a bonus for our 16th Picnic. We had an exclusive area on grass on which to display our cars, enjoy our picnics and socialise together. The turnout was a wonderful array of close to sixty MGs ranging from an 18/80 up to Z and TF model cars.
This was our second visit to Anglesey Abbey and what an interesting venue it is. The Abbey with its many rooms and fine furnishings to view, the wonderful extensive grounds and gardens plus the Lode Mill for added interest offered plenty to entertain. For additional interest the visitor centre with its range of facilities including a café and shop plus a second-hand bookshop by the Abbey offered even more to do and see.
But above all it was the relaxed atmosphere of the event that made the day.
Many thanks to those who helped on the day and of course to all members for supported the event.
