Simon Tinkler Championship Story

Simon Tinkler won the MGCC BCV8 Championship for the second time in 3 years with one race in hand. After a great tussle with Bob Luff in the final round at Snetterton, Simon finished the season with a Class AB win and followed that with a Class win in the British Motor Heritage 4 Hour Relay race.

Simon prepared the car himself, with guidance and assistance from his father, Richard, who has been involved with MGs for 53 years.  Simon also prepared the engine himself for the first time this year. The only mechanical failure during the season was a broken throttle cable when leading the Class at Brands Hatch. Besides the racer, affectionately known as Primrose, Simon has a 1972 Midget, a 1964 MGB and a 1937 Austin 7 special. Father has a 1937 MG TA, a 1967 Midget and a 1971 Marcos 3 litre Volvo.

Simon hopes to repeat the performance in 2016 but will face stronger competition in the New Class A, the FIA cars being quicker in a straight line but slower round the bends. Simon is also hoping to share a drive in the Spa 6 Hours race in September 2016, in an FIA MGB.
