MG get a taste of Africa!

Belmont Garage, an MG Motor UK car dealership based in Epsom Downs, has transformed its showroom into an African sunset silhouette, thanks to a little help from the local community.

More than 70 colourful canvasses, designed by budding ‘Picassos’ from Shawley Primary School, will be displayed at the dealership until the end of April. Organised in partnership with Tattenham Corner Community Events, the initiative aims to bring local businesses and schoolchildren together to celebrate the region’s talent and creativity.

The initiative has already captured the attention of parents and customers alike. In fact, the exhibition has been so successful, the dealership has agreed to host a similar event for A-Level students later this year.

Ian Williams, Dealer Principal at Belmont Garage, commented: “We believe that engaging with the local community should be a key priority for any local business. We’re known across Surrey as a friendly, welcoming car dealership – a reputation based on knowledgeable and honest customer counsel, alongside fun and engaging initiatives such as the Shawley Primary School African art display.

“Our relationship with Tattenham Corner Community Events started in December 2016, when we hosted a carol service for the local primary school. It was a great event and brought hundreds of local parents into the dealership, which allowed us to state our claim as a cornerstone of the local community. As relationships with local residents are key for the business, we wanted to maintain this partnership and, as such, have continued to host events and exhibitions ever since!”

The artwork was completed as part of a class project about Africa. The children also held an African drumming workshop, made African masks out of clay, learnt about the wild animals of Africa and compared life in Kenya with that in England.
