Four’s fine for MGCC!

1st March 2017

The MG Car Club is delighted to have been shortlisted in four separate categories for the 2017 National Car Club Awards. Supported by Classic Car Weekly and endorsed by the Federation of British Historic Vehicle Clubs, the awards are the best way for clubs around the country to be recognised for their achievements over the past 12 months.

For the second year in a row, the Club has been put on the shortlist for the main prize, the National Club of the Year. In 2016 the Club once again organised MGLive! – the biggest MG party in the world held at Silverstone. The Club’s new archive extension ‘the Bill Wallis Wing’ opened at the Club’s home in Abingdon at the beginning of 2016, providing a safe home for all of the Club’s heritage that has been preserved down the years. All of 2016’s achievements contributed to a very successful year for the MG Car Club, and recognition of this in the form of the Club of the Year award would be a truly brilliant accomplishment.

The Club’s monthly magazine ‘Safety Fast!’ has been put forward for Club Magazine of the Year after being completely rebranded in 2016. Safety Fast! is no stranger to awards, having won several in the past. Highlights of 2016 included a 12-part series on the Club’s history and a two-part series on the MG Metro 6R4.

MGLive! has also been shortlisted for an award – Outstanding Car Club Event. In 2016, thousands of petrol-heads poured into an action-packed weekend full of racing, live arena action and MG displays. The event continues to the set the standard for MG events across the world, attracting people from as far wide as China, South America and the USA.

Outstanding Support of the Next Generation is the last award the Club has been shortlisted for due to the launch of the Club’s Young Members Group. Membership numbers under the age of 25 have more than doubled in the past 12 months, providing young MG enthusiasts with the full range of benefits.

Lee Masters, Director of The National Car Club Awards, said: “We had 209 nominations, which is 25 more than the inaugural year and it’s fantastic to see the clubs embrace these awards. Once again, the standard of entries was extremely high with a fantastic mix of clubs of all sizes.

“Some of the categories had over 30 entries and reducing these down to a shortlist was extremely difficult, making that place on the shortlist even more valuable and an incredible achievement.”

All of the National Car Club Awards will be announced at the Awards Dinner on Saturday 1st April alongside the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show in Birmingham. MGLive! star Mike Brewer will be hosting the evening and presenting all 16 awards to the winners. There will then be a ‘Judges Special Recognition Award’ presented to a club that the panel feel has gone the extra mile in the classic motoring movement.

The MG Car Club will be making its first appearance at the Practical Classics Classic Car and Restoration Show at the end of the month, and members can get a special discount code in the member’s area of the website.
