Stolen MGB – please help us find this car

This red 1968 MGB has just recently been stolen in the Wimbledon area. The car has only just come back to the UK having spent many years in Australia, and now has the numberplate FND639F.

The car is somewhat unique in that it is one of a small number of CKD models that were assembled in Australia. The chassis plate is titled the British Motor Corporation (Australia) Pty Ltd, with a chassis number YGHN3-4976, which places it around late-1967/early-1968 vintage. The car is in immaculate condition with its original bodywork and paint, extremely well maintained having always been garaged, and has low mileage. It was first registered in Australia in 1968, and it is that provenance that enabled the owner to get it fitted with corresponding year UK registration plates FND639F, earlier this year.

Other identifying characteristics are that it is fitted with a newer remanufactured engine made by Ivor Searle, engine number 18YDTAH15555. Consequently, this number on the engine itself is different to the original engine number stamped on the chassis plate. It has black leather seats, and Mota-Lia steering wheel. It also has one of the older style pack-away hood frames and cover (the frame assembly removes from the body and can be stowed in the boot). Its paint ‘Champion Red’ was a local body colour, similar to its UK counterpart, but unique to Australia.
