Kimber House Open Weekend: Full Information

MG Car Club are throwing open the doors to Kimber House, the Club Headquarters, for our first Open Weekend!

Drop in anytime during either day to explore our on-site museum, see our archive and stop by the Club shop. There will be plenty of driving route books available if you wish to depart on some of the factory test routes around the Abingdon area! We’re also planning a display of special MGs from throughout the marque’s 95 year history.

If you’ve never visited Abingdon, the birthplace of many MGs from 1929 – 1980, then now is the ideal time.

To help us anticipate expected numbers over the weekend, we ask that you register for a free ticket  via our online ticket site – Eventbrite. Tickets are available for;

Saturday 15th June – 10:30-16:00

PARKING:

Please note, due to limited external space at Kimber House THERE WILL NOT BE ANY PARKING ON SITE. We have arranged free car parking for visitors a five minute walk away at the Red Cross, Red Cross House, Colwell Dr, Abingdon OX14 1AU (right next to the McDonalds). 

If you are arriving in Abingdon from the A34, follow the A415 Marcham Road past the Fairacres Retail Park. Go straight over the first roundabout, past Abingdon Hospital. Turn left at the next roundabout onto Colwell Drive (McDonalds should be on your left) and take the first left. Red Cross House should be just in front of you (see image below) and take the the first right to park in the car park behind the building. There will be parking signs and marshals there to direct you. There will also be some information on display at Kimber House about the Red Cross as well as a donation bucket to thank them for their hospitality. It is then a five minute walk to Kimber House, with signs directing you along the way.

There will be additional overflow parking at another car park nearby if this car park is full when you arrive.

Make a day of it – Whilst you’re in the area, there are various other places of interest you can see on your visit. 

Travel Information – We have been made aware that as part of long term works, the A34/M4 Junction 13 Chieveley will be closed entirely from 10pm on Friday 14 June through to 6am on Monday 17 June. Significant delays are expected during these weekend closures. We advise you plan ahead of your journey and allow extra time or avoid this route if possible. When the roundabout is closed signed diversions will be in place which primarily go via the A4 between junction 12 (Theale) and junction 14 (Shefford Woodlands). A34 traffic will need to exit at Speen then head towards Hungerford for the M4 westbound carriageway, or towards Theale for the M4 eastbound carriageway. M4 westbound traffic wishing to access the A34 is advised to exit at junction 12 and travel west along the A4; and M4 eastbound traffic wishing to access the A34 is advised to exit and junction 14 and travel east along the A4. Local traffic wishing to access the A34 southbound carriageway or M4 from Graces Lane (Chieveley) will be diverted along the B4009 from Hermitage to Newbury, west along the A4 to Speen then either onto the A34 or along the A4 to Hungerford, then north on the A338 to join the M4 at junction 14. When the roundabout is closed access to the Moto Service Area and Hilton Hotel will be maintained from the A34 northbound carriageway only.
